I'm Trying To Let You Know - 6
Here you go, chapter 6. Hope you guys enjoy it. Buzzes and comments rock! :)
[Mikey's POV, after school]
Gerard and I were expecting Ray and Frank to arrive any minute. I was feeling a little pissed off, since I had seen Raine and Jake go off together after school. I couldn't believe that she thought we were lying to her about Jake. It was clear that she liked Jake a lot, but he was going to break her heart sooner or later.
Then there were a couple of knocks on the door. I ran to answer it. Frank and Ray had arrived together. "Hey guys," I greeted, hoping that I didn't sound angry.
Frank's face was a picture of bitterness and fury. "Raine went out with Weston," he announced, his voice harsh as he stepped in.
"I know!" I agreed angrily.
"Sucks that she doesn't believe us. And I'm her brother," Ray complained.
"What? She actually went out with Weston?" Gerard said, rolling his eyes.
"Yeah! It's so... frustrating," Frank responded bitterly, glaring at the TV set as though it did him some great wrong.
I sat down next to him. I completely understood what he felt. Having a crush on the same person gave rise to rivalries, but now was one of these times when the rivalries vanished.
"By the way, did you know he is taking her to the prom?" Frank said even more furiously, punching the couch.
I was utterly shocked. In our school, the seniors were allowed to take juniors to the prom. It was a double-edged sword for me. I had wanted to ask Raine to the prom, but it seemed Jake had beaten me to it. Ray and Frank would have been happier if it was me taking her. As much as I liked Raine, they knew I wouldn't step out of line (meaning, kissing her or whatever) if she didn't like me back.
I swore under my breath. "You know, I wouldn't mind half as much if her date was you," Frank said, his voice even.
I nodded. "He beat me to it though. I don't know what else we can do."
Ray and Gerard were talking between themselves, probably waiting for Frank and I to stop our conversation. Every week, we would go to someone's place to hang out. This week it was the Way house. We usually watched movies or played video games at our place.
"You guys are done? How about a movie, then maybe a game afterwards?" my brother suggested.
"Sure," the rest of us chorused. It was good to have something fun to take our minds off the topic that was Raine. She was a heartbreaker who didn't know she was one. She was an angel and she was also a devil. She was an unreasonable bitch, yet we all loved her, in some way or another. She was a puzzle, one that was hard to solve, yet she could be an open book, easy to read.
[Raine's POV]
After we were dismissed from the last class of the day, I was walking to the school gates with Frank when I saw Jake approaching us. Somewhere behind him, I saw Mikey too. He looked worried and displeased, unlike the cheeky, cheerful guy I knew.
"Hi Jess. Are you free this afternoon?" Jake asked.
"Sure. What's up?" I said, smiling at him.
"I've got an extra ticket to a movie today. I was supposed to go with my buddy Luke but he fell sick today. You wanna go?" Jake asked, looking a little shy.
"Well..." I looked at Frank, then at Mikey. They didn't like me going out with Jake. They said he was a serial dater, claimed he cheated on me with some other girl, but I didn't believe them. After all, Jake was so sweet to me that I could hardly trust them. Now they looked absolutely pissed off.
"It's okay if you can't go," Jake said gently.
"Go with one of your other girlfriends, why don't you?" Mikey snapped. He had reached us.
Jake turned back quickly. "Sorry?"
I glared at Mikey. "C'mon, Jake. Let's go. I'm definitely available this afternoon," I said coolly.
"Great," Jake said, taking my hand and walking in the direction of the movie theatre, the part of the town away from my street. I looked back quickly at Frank and Mikey. The crumpled, defeated looks on their faces lowered my spirits. I mouthed "sorry" at them, but they had already turned away.
